About Alpacas

More than just cute
Alpacas are wonderful animals through and through! They manage to enchant just about everyone with their unique charisma.
In the presence of alpacas you can completely relax even in the greatest stress and, as the saying goes, just let your mind wander.
In recent years, the high value of the fleece and the entire alpaca itself has also proven that alpaca breeding is a niche market and that these divine animals have an even greater future ahead of them!
The Alpaca
The alpaca is a domesticated form of camel originating from the South American Andes and is primarily bred for its wool. In addition to alpacas, the New World camelids also include guanacos, vicunas and llamas.
Alpacas are the national treasure of South America. Like all camels, they are social herd animals and feel most comfortable in groups. Today there are around three million alpacas, mainly in southern Peru, western Bolivia and Chile. They have only become native to the western world in the last few years - in Germany there are currently just around 20,000 animals, which are mainly kept as breeding or hobby animals in relatively small groups. Nevertheless, these fantastic animals are increasingly conquering hearts and pastures in rural areas.

The ancestors of the Incas domesticated alpacas and llamas as early as 3000 BC. While the llama was primarily used as a beast of burden, the alpaca was bred for its wool. The high-quality wool was revered as the "fleece of the gods". An alpaca coat was a sign of wealth. The Incas bred large herds of alpacas. This changed with the conquest of Peru by the Spaniards, who brought their sheep with them and showed no interest in researching the local livestock. The alpaca thus developed into a livestock for the poor Indian population and was almost extinct at one point. It was not until the independence of the South American states that the value of the alpaca was recognized again. Breeding was resumed and the wool was exported all over the world.
Die Alpakawolle
Alpaca fiber is extremely valuable because it combines many desirable attributes in a single fiber. There are practically no negative properties found in alpaca fleece. Mother Nature came up with the blueprint for the ideal fiber and then placed it on the gentle alpaca. Alpaca products are extremely soft, supple and feel extraordinarily pleasant - unmatched by most luxury natural fibers. Anyone who has ever had the chance to wear a product made of alpaca wool or sleep in an alpaca blanket will never want to be without this fiber. In addition, alpaca fiber is unusually strong, resilient and tear-resistant. But what is unique about it is that it acts like a kind of air conditioning system, it warms you in the cold and can also dissipate heat, meaning you don't sweat as easily as with other fibers or synthetic materials and there is no heat build-up. This is due to the microscopically small cavities in the fleece, which can create particularly light garments with high insulation values. Undoubtedly a divine fiber!
