No. A distinction must be made between fur and wool : fur refers to the skin of animals with the hair on it, and wool refers to the cut hair. With fur, the animal is killed, but with wool, this is not the case. Alpacas are sheared once a year. As with sheep, shearing is an absolute must in terms of animal welfare law alone.

No. We place great importance on stress-free and quick shearing. Alpacas' wool grows by one centimeter a month. An alpaca with more than 12cm of wool would suffer in summer temperatures just as much as you would with a thick winter coat in the 30 degree sun - the only difference being that the alpaca cannot take off the coat itself. For animal welfare reasons, shearing is an absolute must for any animal whose hair does not fall out on its own. That's why we always shear our animals in April or May, depending on when the last cold days are. Our alpacas are visibly grateful for the release and enjoy the rays of sunshine with their airy summer outfits.

No. We pass our wool on to selected local contractors who then carry out the individual processing steps according to our wishes. This way we also maintain local jobs.

In order to manufacture the products ourselves, we lack the sometimes very expensive machines, the workforce, the know-how and, above all, the time.

Caring for your new favorite blanket is not difficult.

Alpaca wool has a self-cleaning effect, which means that in damp weather it releases odors and absorbed toxins into the surrounding air. We use this effect to clean our blankets gently: simply hang the blanket outside under cover for several hours in damp weather, preferably in a place with a little draft. After a few hours the blanket smells almost like new again. Do this at least once a year.

If the blanket is heavily soiled or has been in use for 5 years, we recommend having it professionally cleaned.

Attention: Never put your blanket in the washing machine. High water temperatures and aggressive cleaning agents will damage your blanket!
